How do I know if my gutter is installed and functions correctly?
When there is rain and all parts of the roof function properly, the water is supposed to come down smoothly on the surface of the tiles without barriers, into the gutter, to the downpipes, no leakage or overflow anywhere, so the water goes straight into the drain, no dripping at all.
Gutter repair may seem like a very simple job anyone can do at a cheap price, but it actually is not true, it can be done well or badly. If not done properly, you the owner can experience some really irritating things.
Probably the most annoying sound is when water drips onto the glass of the conservatory roof or onto the plastic sill cover, you may not be able to sleep because of that noise, some people can’t stand it at all.
Then it will affect your performance, your mood at work and generally in life because obviously you will be tired, fussy, irritable.
It might be even worse if you’ve already had someone around who did something about it, you paid for it, but the problem is still there.
Here is a list to check around the house to make sure all the guttering is functioning properly or not
- If the gutter holds straight and the water does overflow at the sides? – Might be a sign of fascia not holding quite right behind the gutter;
- Some overflows at certain points of the guttering – the gutters probably are full of debris and need clearing;
- Overflows at some points only, especially at the wrong ends of gutter sections – most probably sloping is not accurate, the gutter system needs readjusting maybe just some sections;
- If the gutters are too low and the water may hit it but flows out in the outer side of it – the brackets will need to be reinstalled at the right height
- The gutter looks fine all around, but the water still does not flow down, the downpipes can be blocked
You can always do a test after the gutters were cleared, does the water go down with no visible problem or is there still an issue?
